Freya Day..

..well, it was a day of fighting fires. We are dealing with some inefficiencies in our workflows…hammering out the bugs…making the machine run more smoothly…that sort of thing.

I had a great meeting today with somone about XSAN. Maybe it’ll be in our future plans sooner rather than later – we’ll see. Oh, I did get my entry to the New World News’ Uncanny Valley Expo Entry posted – check it out here!

..and now, the weekend…

Wednesday…um…

…so when I say I’m gonna write a post everyday, I should probably try to stick to it…

I think I made it 2 days! Whew, I hope you had time to read all that! I don’t even have a good excuse. Sunday we took the kids to the MD Rennaissance Festival. Monday we went into mourning for the loss of one of my son’s heros (why’d we lose one of the people that actually makes a difference these days?). Tuesday, I just plain forgot…

Gearing up for a few new edit systems to come at work. They’ll be FCP systems. Probably going to go with Blackmagic Decklink HD cards in them. That and a Multibridge system as a digitizing station….more on that as it develops.

Trying to get time to learn Shake and Blender…so little time…sigh.

Saturday…Saturday…

…night’s all right for fighting!…or something like that. Yes, I was an Elton John fan in my younger days. I will forever remember a group of us singing Crocodile Rock at the summer camp I went to. Blasting out of one of the counselor’s ’66 Mustang Convertible, from an 8-Track no less! Good times…

Not much in the way of media production news to report from the weekend.

I keep trying to find some time to start making my way thru those blender tutorials I posted about a little while ago. Someday I’ll get thru them. In the meantime, I found this really cool new avatar outfit in SL. I gotta think of a machinima project to work this one in to.

The Daily Experiment

I’m going to try an experiment. ..just an exercise for me, really…I’m going to try posting something, anything once a day for a week. I’ll actually try for the whole month of Sept., but I’m going to start with a week – til next friday.

I have no real sense of how many people read what I post here, but I need to work on getting more disciplined about my writing (both on & off the blog) so I’ll try to post something once a day. That seems reasonable.

My other reason is to create a bit of an open journal about the process I’m going through at my new job. As Director of Post-Production, I manage 8 edit suites and how work flows through them. When I started 3 weeks ago, we were in the middle of concurrent production and post-production on three series. I have to get up-to-speed on the technical capabilities of the system very quickly. I serve as the primary technical support for the suites on a daily basis. As Director, I also have the task of planning the future direction of the facility. The future, as you can guess, is HD, so my writing here may also serve as a document of the upgrade process. Maybe it will be of some use to someone else who faces a similar prospect.

Cheers & Happy reading!
