Copy, Cut, Paste – Fair Use could be your friend

A study by our friends at the Center for Social Media at American University shows that many videos appearing on the Internets fall under Fair Use. Remember that:

Fair use is a doctrine in United States copyright law that allows limited use of copyrighted material without requiring permission from the rights holders, such as use for scholarship or review. [see Wikipedia].     

The study reviewed several online video at YouTube, MySpace, Veoh, etc. and broke many of them down into the respective Fair Use category. Definitely worth a look if you’re at all concerned about how your use of copyrighted material may be viewed. Read the study: Recut, Reframe, Recycle
